3 Steps To The Perfect Powernap

by Walter Naeslund on April 21, 2009

Every now and then I like to do a rerun on my most popular post ever – The Power Nap School.

I promise you, taking that 15 minute nap in the afternoon will transform you life. It makes you more creative, more energetic, and allows for fewer hours sleep at night. For me, around 6 hours is well enough.

Best of all, it’s as easy as 1 2 3. Here is how you do it:

1. Be a proud power napper. This will get you the necessary napping frame of mind, and will also widen the range of napping spots available to you, since you really don’t need privacy.

2. Set your alarm to fifteen minutes. NOT MORE! Trust me on this one. Fifteen minutes will make you wake up with tons of energy, while longer naps will only get you tired and confused. Another benefit is that you always HAVE fifteen minutes. If you don’t have the time to nap you have to make time for being tired and ineffective.

3. Realize that falling asleep is not necessary. Fifteen minutes of sleepless rest will also work wonders for you, and the lack of pressure will make you fall asleep anyway.

That’s it. See you in fifteen.
