I‘m not picky when it comes to just sleeping – I can sleep in a closet – but I AM picky when it comes to giving a hotel a five star review. But this time I will. ACE Hotel i New York truly ROCKS! And why is that? Well – like they say, the devil is in the details.
I don’t care much for snotty concierges and ridiculously expensive designer furniture. I do on the other hand care a lot about atmosphere and great design. I also care about feeling that somebody with mad good taste has really put his heart into my experience. This hotel is the latter of these two things.
From the get go, every detail is just spot on. The clothes the staff are wearing is right on. They’re well dressed, rather than wearing uniforms. They’ve got style and personality. So does the lobby. There is a lot of thought put into designing this place, but it’s not sterile and perfect. Rather it’s slightly grungy and worn which creates a genuine and incredibly stylish mood to the place. I feel at home here. The fact that the lobby is transformed to a really good bar at night doesn’t precisely make it worse. Good clientèle.
After that it’s all about detail. From the smallest piece of copy on the elevator key card slot (“Use your key card and start going places”) to the obligatory exit sign (“Every exit is an entrance somewhere else”), to the fully stocked SMEG fridge “mini”-bar, to the kick ass robe (I’m buying one, no two), to the room stereo system (yes, complete with turntable and awesome vintage vinyls), to the pen sharpener, to the…
This could go on for a while, so why don’t I just show you instead. Enjoy:
I love this place! Five W’s for you!

By the way – there is one more quirk about this hotel that I’ll tell you about tomorrow. Stay tuned!
