Charlene Li, one of the authors of the excellent book Groundswell presented this set of slides the other day. I find them to be fairly well in sync with what I see happening. What do you think?

Predictions are everywhere, it’s become a genre in itself, at least on slideshare, and Charlene’s are the best i read so far about social media, so thanks for the link.
What i find most exciting is what she calls “tapping communication patterns to find network neighbors”, based on behavior and not just who you’re friends with.
Another very interesting subject is about having the people (since “consumer” is such an ugly word) controlling the use of their personal information. I just hope this will mean the end of intrusive marketing for good.
Btw, Internet Marketing Conference is coming to Stockholm in may 2009. They are currently looking for speakers. I think you should apply.

I think most of this presentation is not about future but instead what is around right now. Then when it flips over to future it’s a scary and not very probable future.
Charlene seems to think the future is about stealing data and making the most of it when in fact it will most certain be about respect for people and getting into the conversation.
Good to see you here Johan.
I agree with you about getting into the conversation, but I also believe (in contrast with Per Ström for example) that we will see a big attitude shift when it comes to what we often refer to as “integrity”. I believe, and I know this is controversial, that the increased transparency will lead to better behavior and more efficient markets (benefiting everybody by more effective use of resources). These systems of tribal behavior are deeply rooted in us humans and are just energized and globalized by social media.
Read your blog and like it by the way. Ciao.
