I‘m excited about the new LOVE-magazine. It fills a void that has been apparent for a while. It’s just like when the gay movement got proud. An attitude of “here I am” is always sexy. And I mean sexy in the best possible way.
But it’s also a symbol of something else. The feminist movement is loosing a bit of it’s rebellious edge. Not that they’re doing anything wrong or that saying the wrong things. Quite the contrary. They’ve been so incredibly successful in their work that they’ve gone mainstream. It doesn’t need angry rebells anymore, but positive, confident awesomeness with mainstream appeal. From what I can see so far “Love” magazine is not a feminist magazine. It’s a fashion magazine. The fact that it even inspired me to write this post tells me that there has been something seriously wrong for a while now. Why do I not associate 90-60-90-models on the cover with feminism, and an awesome female musician of other measurements with it?
I think we’re all pretty tired of articles like “Top 10 Power Women of [insert industry]. To me, those articles are sexist. I promise that many the top 10 PEOPLE of anywhere will be women. They don’t need a special section, which to me only suggests that being of the female sex is some kind of disability.
It’s time to make this about people.
