Helmets On. This is My New Years Resolution:

by Walter Naeslund on December 20, 2007

Some of the books I’ve gone through lately are Blue Ocean Strategy, Purple Cow and Zag. Basically they have the same message: When everybody zigs, zag. Do the things nobody else is doing. Why? Because that’s how you’ll become truly successful. Sure, this is an oversimplification of great magnitude, but in essence we all know it to be true. I’ve been sitting around nodding my head to these books, humming and having eureka-moments. I’ve been preaching this message to others.

But still, putting these magnificent words into action is not something we do day to day. most of us anyway. And that is because of fear. As long as we keep doing what we’ve been doing (and I know most of you who are reading this blog are very successful people) we won’t disrupt our success patterns. BUT – we won’t have the huge breakthrough success either. In Seth Godin’s Purple Cow he writes “being safe is being risky”. Sounds nice, and personally I believe he’s right, but taking risks is SCARY. I don’t do it day to day. I know you don’t. But we should. Or rather, the world is changing so fast that we MUST. Don’t read another one of these books without first taking some real zagging action. Can we make that our new years resolution? I know I will.
