I Talk The Walk

by Walter Naeslund on May 14, 2008

Sometimes people whisper about people that just talk and never do. I think that they probably whisper that about me sometimes. Understandably. I do talk a lot. And write a lot (around 400 posts and counting).

And I don’t have production managers, project managers, receptionists, assistants, or a cleaning staff. Sure that lowers my production capabilities somewhat, but that’s not the point, and it’s not what this post is about. The people who whisper are right, and I acknowledge that. What I DON’T acknowledge on the other hand is that all talk an no walk makes Walter a dull boy. That talking (or writing) is pointless. I know for a fact that I’ve inspired others. I know for a fact that my strategies have come to use. I know for a fact that my outlooks have produced insights. Which have led to actions. Which have led to results. That I’ve read about. I know I’ve been contacted by some of our most established and highly regarded brand gurus to give my opinion on things. Several times. And it’s all because of my blabbering mouth and my frustrated pen (or keyboard rather).

I mean, this is an information society. Written and spoken information is what most of our “factories” produce today. And I’m a fairly productive writer. And talker.

(This was my point. What is beside the point is that I DO produce a lot of other stuff. I am currently involved in several, I think eight or nine, projects and innovation initiatives for some of Sweden’s biggest and most important brands, where we’ve reached extraordinary results. Just because you don’t read about it in Resumé or Ad Age doesn’t mean it didn’t happen. But that’s a different post altogether. I love you all).
