Speaking of “fear of failure”, I just read a quite interesting piece in Fortune Magazine on Steve Jobs. There is one celebratory article that I haven’t read yet, and one that is titles “The Trouble With Steve Jobs” covering just that. I’ve read the second one. And it’s interesting. And I recommend it.
What is interesting about it is that people REALLY seem to fear failure under the tyranny of Jobs, but they also reap huge rewards when performing outstandingly well. (Apparently Jobs is binary. You’re either a genius or a bozo). Performing so-so is the same as being a bozo. This combination of utter fear and scent of gold seems to be a magic formula, and one where true miracles are born.
