I made a new years resolution to use that line more often. Well – sort of anyway. What I mean is this: I think we should all be a bit quicker to the punch. Either do things or do not. I’m tired of maybes, preliminary appointment reservations, rain checks. They suck.
I mean it in my private life and in my business life. If you want to meet me for coffee, sure! Movies, dinners – definitely. Do business with me – absolutely! But don’t leave me hanging. Or waiting. We’ll both be better off doing something else than wasting each others time.
So, what has the result been so far?
In a word – excellent! People appreciate this (with a couple of exceptions, and I’ve happily ended those relationships). We like knowing what’s going on. We don’t like things to just fade away. We like people to respect our time, and we like respecting others’. It’s human nature, and it makes us feel good.
So besides applying this principle privately and in my business relationships, I think it works great with brands. (I guess that should be pretty obvious coming from a guy who’s always ranting and raving about brand personalities). Brands should also talk straight, respect peoples time and not disappoint them. It sounds obvious, but it seems to me we forget sometimes.
