The other day I got the question if I could show some examples of good advertising. I had a hard time answering that question, and that got me thinking – am I not impressed by ANY advertising? Of course I am, but good advertising is completely uninteresting if it’s not put in context. My answer to the question was something pathetic about some ad that I currently liked, and that has bugged me since. My answer SHOULD have been “I’m not impressed by advertising, I’m impressed by well run brands” – sustainable concepts that build brands and sell products over the long term.
Yesterday I checked in to ACE Hotel in New York City. I really didn’t know much about this hotel upon arrival, but I can tell you now that this is one of the most congruent and well executed brand strategies I’ve seen in a while. At least in the hotel business. I’ll be back later with a complete review (including pics) but for now I can just tell you that the devil is in the details. The amazing attention to detail here, and how they’ve managed to build atmosphere is impressive.
But more on that later. First I have to head off to work with one of my favorite designers in the world. More on that later.
