Now here is an interesting idea! Buy Something Day. It’s a reaction (I would guess) to “Buy Nothing Day” that has been manifested in Sweden in protest of capitalism. Buy Something Day on the other hand manifests it’s support OF capitalism and the free market, without which our country would be much like the cold war era Soviet Union. Or actually, not even that.
But that’s not what I find interesting in this idea. What IS interesting however is the notion of social buying. Not social advertising (I no longer use the word viral for this kind of phenomenon). It’s actually not general recommendation like “Peter bought this”, but specific, pin-pointed recommendations “Peter wants Lisa to buy this” or even “Peter wants Lisa to buy this for Erica”. Like dedicating songs, but generalized. Fantastic.
At least I have never seen this before. Upon seeing it it’s obvious, but brilliant.
This afternoon I’ll start hacking away on a Facebook-app doing exactly this! Oh! They already did that. Pronto, I applaude you.
Thank’s to Not Another Planning Blog for the heads up.
