I heard this story from a friend this weekend. It may or may not be true, but nevertheless it’s a rather strange example of alternate media use.
A local practical joker gets a bunch of tires up to the top of a New Zeeland volcano. He sets them on fire, causing panic in the town below as everybody thinks the volcano has gone live. The man, of course, was arrested with lots press covering the arrest. As it happens, the man is a restaurant owner in need for some extra business, and during the arrest he drops a “by the way”-line about his restaurant. The volcano may not have erupted, but the restaurant business certainly did!
