VOTE: Should This Blog Be in Swedish?

by Walter Naeslund on May 4, 2008

My native language is Swedish. On my flight to Paris last week I had a discussion about the language on this blog. I would say that somewhere around 85% of my readers today are Swedish, so is it really such a good idea to write in English?

These are some of the pros and cons:
Pro Swedish:
* I write much better in Swedish than in English.
* It’s easier for the majority of my readers to read Swedish.

Pro English:
* I often write about foreign agencies and issues, and when I do I often get some form of feedback from them because I get caught by their search bots. I kind of like that, and they don’t know Swedish.
* I can refer foreign people to my blog.
* Having archives in English is just more useful. You never know what the future may hold.
* It’s good practice for me to write in English.

So. I’ll put up a little survey here on the right where you can vote. Blog in English, or blog in Swedish?

English. Swedes know English, English doesn’t know Swedish. And it’s about communications right?

Since you seem to be thinking big picture, leave it in English.

You can add the translator feature, so if you do write in Swedish, we who read English can enjoy reading it too. Many of the blogs I read that are european have this ranslation feature, honestly I wish more had the feature.
