Part of what I love with Google Docs, Calendars, Gmail, etc is that I can work independently from what machine I’m currently on. But I can also loose my laptop on the bus without worrying about 1) data loss and 2) compromising sensitive data. This makes me sleep well at night.
It seems to me that the new Google offline capabilities remove this second aspect, and thus half of the point. In the rare occasions when I’m not online (basically only on airplanes, but that will soon be history as well) I can just use any text editor and head on straight to docs when I hit the Tarmac.
Seems to be a move in the wrong direction. Harddrive, no thanks. Cloud, yes please.
